Italian for Tourist Author Jo Lindsell

I’m pleased to have Jo Lindsell, author of “Italian for Tourists” on my blog today. Here’s a little bit about Jo: Born in Gillingham, Kent (UK) in September 1980. Her married name is Joanne Denise Feliciani. Having passed 10 GCSE’s, she went on to study Business Studies, History and Art A-Levels at Yateley 6th

Form. Jo Linsdell left England and moved to Rome, Italy, in June 2001, where she now lives with her Italian husband and their son.

She has had various jobs including working in hostels, being a tour guide and teaching English as a foreign language. She now works full-time as a freelance writer and writes regularly for various websites, newspapers and magazines. She writes in both English and Italian.

Italian For Tourists: Pocket Edition is a phrasebook published through the online content marketplace Lulu.com and is a basic guide to the Italian language covering phrases and words most needed by tourists. It includes all the words and phrases a tourist is likely to need during their stay in Italy as well as a pronunciation guide and a map of Italy.

The phrasebook is divided into 17 chapters including; Emergency, The basics, Common expressions, Learning Italian, Greetings and introducing yourself, Transport, Hotel, Sightseeing, Asking and giving directions, Food and drink, Health, Shopping, Offices and bureaucracy and Signs and notices and more.

Here’s what reviewer, Ron Berry, had to say about “Italian for Tourists:”

“I don’t speak Italian. I have enough trouble with English (or is it American). Jo Linsdell has written the definitive guidebook. I know if I ever make it to Italy, this is the book I want. Why? Because it’s layout is simple, easy to use and covers everything. Ms Linsdell has put in a guide to how to pronounce the letters and put in the most common of phrases. There is not a lot of excess wording so finding what phrase or word you need in a hurry is very simple. This book is a must for anyone travelling to Italy. The only negative is that it doesn’t go into all the bad language that Italian drivers throw at each other. Wait, that’s a good thing.

The first thing you notice is how the book is divided. Then you get the guide to how to pronounce each letter and in Italian, you do just that. After that, all you have to do is look for the section you need, airport, train station, hotel, etc, and all the common phrases are there. Anyone who travels can use this book. There are many Italian to English books or other combinations, but none are as easy to use as Italian for Tourists. I highly recommend this to anyone travelling to Italy”.

Another reviewer, Karen Cioffi says, “The format of this book is simple and uncluttered with easy to read font. This allows for easy and quick access to the section and word/phrase you’re looking for. It is an easy to read and understandable tour guide.

“Italian for Tourists includes almost every conceivable word or phrase you would need. It also provides you with the information to pronounce them. The detail in this book is wonderful and thoughtful. It is easy to see that Ms. Linsdell must have devoted a great deal of time and effort to create such a useful and helpful book. If you are travelling to Italy, this is a must have book.”

Jo Lindsell is also the creator and manager of the multi award winning site http://writersandauthors.blogspot.com and founder and organiser of PROMO DAY (http://jolinsdell.tripod.com/promoday), an international online event for people in the writing industry.
