Black eyed peas & cornbread

When you live in the South, there are certain foods you can count on eating on New Year's Day. Black-eyed peas, cornbread, collards, and sometimes (not me, thank God), hog jowls and chitlins.

Shudder.

But that's the thing about New Year's Eve and Day. There's the ball dropping at Times Square, there are fireworks and people cheering. There's even the horrid meals (can't you tell I didn't grow up in the South?).

But what if you're looking at your new year? Have you made plans for your writing, are you becoming more organized? Does your work-in-progress look a little better with the advent of the new year? This is the time to break free from some traditions, to become bold (but not arrogant) and to press forward towards your writing goals.

What about you? What are your goals and ambitions for the new year?

Hi Katie:

My goal is to become more disciplined in achieving publishing success. Finally finish the edits on my historical fiction ms and forge forward with a weekly marketing plan and guidance through the Childrens Writers Coaching Club.

How about you?

Warm regards,
Donna

I'm deep in edits right now, but after that I will revise the sequel so this book and hopefully the publisher will buy it. And after that, an angel story.

Had to read your post when you mentioned black-eyed peas in the title. My husband hates black-eyed peas so we did not partake of that southern tradition after we moved to Texas. Texans kept telling us that the reason we had bad luck was the fact we didn't eat the black-eyed peas. So one year, in desperation, I cooked up a batch and we ate them on New Year's Day. Had even worse luck the following year. LOL

I can laugh about it now, but it was not funny at the time.

As for resolutions, I have made none. Then I don't have to beat myself up when I don't maintain them.

Hog Jowls and chitlins, not my idea of holiday food either Katie, but to each his own. Whatever glides your pen, pushes your keys, or creates a story in your mind, I'm wishing you, and all who visit here, a wonderful and successful writing year. New Year resolutions are made to be broken. My ambitions Katie are to get to 2011 and still be on this side of the dirt. Happy writing to all.

Hmm...
So there was a conspiracy afoot, and your stove wasn't broke. Wow, I missed out on my Hog Jowls and chitlins this year out of design. :)

Love you sweetheart, you do a great job on your blog.

Katie, I'm still procrastinating on setting 2010 writing goals -- so I guess my first goal is to stop procrastinating and set some goals.
