Time Well Spent

This weekend, instead of reading, texting, computerizing, or running around, my husband and I spent time at home with our two grandsons. One is 2 months, the other is 2 years. My what a difference between the two of them.

I could have checked emails.

I could have gone to the park...prior to getting the boys.

My husband and I could have gone to the movies.

Instead, we made the choice to keep these wonderful two kidlings, and spent our evening and next morning with them. Much to our delight, the youngest decided to sleep for 8 hours before getting up. Then he went back to sleep until 11:20 a.m....just the time our oldest grandson woke up (he had gone to bed at 9:00). Isn't that incredible that they would sleep like that.

We played basketball with the 2 year old. He would sorta toss us the ball and went around declaring he was playing basketball, which comes out of his mouth as "baseball." We kissed on the youngest, bounced him, swung him, lifted him in the air and said "wooo" to him. He made us happy when he would try to imitate our noises and smile at us.

Although it was fun, it was also fun to pass them back to their parents. It pays to take some time away from the busy-ness of our days and writing lives, and engage in those activities that matter the most...spending time with family. It is time well spent.

Yes, the passing back to their parents part is great fun. I always do it with a huge smile on my face. Haha. Funny thing though, when they're handed to me it's often without a smile. Yes, I'm laughing.

We spent time cleaning up our yard -- planting flowers, raking leaves out of beds, weeding. We considered it time well spent, but our 22 year old complained that we 'do nothing but work' and claimed that no one else does this. We told him that -- (1) we couldn't afford to pay someone else
--(2) we liked gardening
and I said that (3) after sitting at a desk all week, it was a pleasure to be outside.

I'm afraid we didn't convince him.

This post makes me miss my baby niece soooo much. I can't wait to get back on the East coast to see her again! Thanks for sharing your family's sweet moments, Katie.
