Review, "Spider in Our Mailbox" by Linda Asato
Spider in Our Mailbox
by Linda Asato
illustrated by Ryan Shaw
published by 4RV Publishing
released May 2009
ISBN-13: 978-0-9818685-5-4
Children love stories about family, animals, and other creatures, especially when they can learn things at the same time. Linda Asato tells the tale of a little girl who checks the mail every day – allowing children to learn the days of the week, and sees a spider in the mailbox (number one). The second day, she sees two crows (number two). Each day the types and number of creatures changes, but the spider remains. Each day, the girl runs to tell her busy mother what she saw.
Lessons to learn are counting to seven and the days of the week, learned in a fun way.
Ryan Shaw brings Asato’s delightful story to life with his bright illustrations.

I can't wait to see all of these books. I don't have little ones who would be at this reading level but I enjoy seeing other authors' works within the company. Thanks for reviewing this book, Katie. E :)
This sounds like something my grandson would love. He's become very intent on checking the mailbox for Mommy each day. :)

Thanks, Linda and Katie for a good post. Looks like a fun learning tool.
Sounds like a darling book and I love the cover. The story reminded me of when my daughter let her young children follow the life of a spider on the front porch from early summer to late fall. They watched as she grew, how she caught bugs, then laid eggs preparing to die in the fall. They appropriately named the spider Charlotte.
Terrific review. What a great concept. Love the book cover!
Regards,
Donna
Hi Katie,
Sounds a great little story for the young ones. Ooh I am not sure about the spider though. I hate the horrible crawly things.
Cheers
Margaret

this looks awesome! Love spiders!
I need to clear up a misconception here. I did NOT write this great review, and don't know who did. I didn't realize that I didn't have the reviewers name when I made the post. All the info came from Linda. Sorry if this was confusing.
I'm trying hard not to pass along my fear of spiders (and other creepy crawly things) to my grandson so a fun book like this would probably be good for both of us.
Linda, this looks like a delightful book and a wonderful way to teach young children how to count and learn the days of the week.
