I routinely check my banking account online to make sure I've remembered to post all my debit card transactions in my checkbook register. It's a good thing I make that a practice, because I noticed my checking account today had a zero balance. Zero? That takes some innovative, creative banking. So, I thought, I'd better check out the details. Argh! I'm glad I did because something was wrong with my account. I printed out the partial statement, and found that a rather large check had somehow not made its way into my register. I don't know how I managed to do that, but cleaning up after it is a bit of a challenge.
As writers, we should also routinely check our "accounts" - you know, those blog entries to make sure they show up right, a blog interview someone did of us, any articles we have written that show up online. It can be a real hassle not to follow up on those things, to later find out we've made some mistakes. Hopefully, not as bad as my bank account, but still, we should make sure our writing is clean, crisp and clear.
Although hindsight is great, there's no substituting for catching any problems the first time around, and it can save you a great deal of pain in your head!

Hi Katie,
I like how you tie in your issue of accounts into writing. You're right that we need to check up on ourselves.
