Be My Valentine

Valentine's Day has come and gone. For some of us, it was a time of romance, fine dining, flowers and candy. For others of us, it was a time of nothing at all--and of course, there are those of us who fall somewhere inbetween.

My husband started romancing me the Monday BEFORE Valentine's Day. I received a funny card, and when I asked him about why it was so early, he told me it was so I could enjoy it all week long.

Of course, I figured that was the only thing I would get for Valentine's Day. BUT, that was not the case. On Wednesday, I got another Valentine's Day card! He said it was so I could enjoy Valentine's Day a little more than usual.

Then, on Friday evening, we went to a church Valentine's Day party, so I figured that was it for Valentine's Day for me. I mean, after all I'd gotten, who would think there was more?

But, on Valentine's Day, I got up and after a fresh cup of joe, I went to my computer. There was yet another Valentine's Day card AND a vase full of beautiful tulips. What girl wouldn't feel like a queen after all this?

So, I figured that was definitely all for Valentine's Day, you know? Not the case! That afternoon we went out to eat, and my heart was definitely pattering after this romantic man.

Valentine's Day was definitely over, right? Nope. Not yet. We never go to the movies, and when he'd asked me, way back, what I wanted for Valentine's Day, I told him I'd like to go see a movie. So Sunday, with a "Happy Valentine's Day, honey" he handed me tickets to go see a movie.

I was swooning! Valentine's Day became Valentine's week, and I feel like a queen! What did he get for Valentine's Day? Hmm. Guess! Share your Valentine's Day story in the comments section!

Katie, this is very inspiring. I'll have to pass on the word to my husband for next year. Certainly the cards and the sweet anticipation were well within a recessionary budget, too, which makes it extra sweet!

Over the years, my family has come to see the value of the extended celebration. We have birth-weekends instead of birthdays and Mother's Day and Father's Day starts on Friday night and continues on through Sunday. But I never thought of doing this for Valentine's Day!

This year we decided to keep things low key. Homemade chocolate cookies and homemade heart-shaped pizzas on the day. But then my husband decided to make use of a gift card he got at work to take us up to Napa Valley for some tastings and lunch. That was the family part of the celebration--I'm hoping the couple's part does continue on....

I spent the morning buying inexpensive groceries (saves the budget). I had sent cards to those that celebrate the day and one to someone who hates that day. I changed that for her this year. I then got the future wife a box of candy, a candy bar and a stuffed bunny that says mom.
I sent a St. Patricks day card to someone who really can't stand the big v day and for reasons that I know. I also wrote and posted my own version of Valentines day on my blog.

Awww, what a sweet story! I'll have to do something like this next year.

This Valentine's, I made chocolate truffles for my husband and gave him a book called "What I Love About You." It's a workbook you fill out for your loved one, with writing prompts and places for sketches, photos, etc. I filled it out for my husband and he loved it.

My birthday falls two days after Valentine's Day - so my husband has basically combined the two events every year into a multi-day fun fest for me! He knows the little things I enjoy and simply spoils me...

What a lovely idea, and such a thoughtful husband you have, Katie! My husband's not too big on the romance bit, but he did buy me a beautiful African violet, and we went out to eat using a gift card, also rented some movies. He has diabetes and usually doesn't eat dessert, but I made him a special sugar-free one.
